In fall of 2012, Elias Salazar realized that there was a great need for a community-wide collegiate orchestra in Middle TN. He gauged musicians' interest in the spring and decided to launch the Nashville Collegiate Orchestra in the summer of 2013. This year, the organization added a chorus to perform symphonic choral literature with the orchestra. The NCO and Chorus are currently made up of about 64 musicians total.
The NCO was founded to:
- Provide current or recent university students in the Middle Tennessee area the opportunities to perform with their colleagues in exciting professional settings
- Provide the surrounding communities with concerts featuring well-known masterpieces as well as recent, lesser-known works.
- Provide young local composers opportunities to hear their orchestral and choral projects while receiving live feedback from the musicians
- Provide associate and guest conducting opportunities for young conductors
Our hope is to grow and establish ourselves as a permanent group in Nashville that may consistently provide these opportunities for collegiate musicians.
Mission:
To achieve as an ensemble of collegiate musicians a level of professional musicianship that will further prepare us for our musical careers and bring joy to audiences through quality community concerts and educational events.

"Beyond the possibilities the NCO fosters for young musicians, it represents a tremendous asset to the community as well."
